THE 5K CHALLENGE: The World Cancer Day was observed recently (Feb 4). This year, the Union for Inter-national Cancer Control promoted the idea of 5k Challenge to close the care gap. People can run, walk or cycle five kilometres, track their activity, post it on social media and nominate five friends to do the same. This healthy activity is aimed at demonstrating our commitment to act now before it gets too late.

POWER LOADSHEDDING: Frequent power loadshedding is a hassle in itself, but it also causes water shortage, disrupting even the most basic of daily routines. Besides, it also leads to dark, unlit alleys, leaving the security of the people seriously compromised. Also stands disturbed are the studies of children who struggle to do their home assignments. The politicians should do something for the people instead of merely blaming each other in the name of politics.

DIRTY HEALTHCARE: I recently visited the Liaquat University of Medical Health Science (LUMHS) Hospital in Jamshoro, and was appalled to see the lack of cleanliness and basic facilities. There was no waiting area for patients. Garbage was lying and flying all around with trash bins nowhere in sight. It is high time the government took some corrective measures in this regard.

TALL CLAIMS: All political parties claim to have the solution to Pakistan’s worsening economic condition. They all make tall claims, but it is quite apparent by now that we actually have no true leader who may have what it takes to weather the storm. Every political party wants to eliminate all others in the race for power. Politicians ride in their luxury cars without noticing the poverty around, while the poor are struggling to see what they might do other than committing suicide.
