ISLAMABAD: Deputy Information Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Aamer Mughal on Thursday narrowly escaped arrest after police raided his house in connection with the Judicial Complex attack case. However, three of his party workers were arrested from different areas.
The raid was conducted without any arrest warrant, Mr Mughal toldDawn.
A well-prepared contingent of capital police, including Counter Terrorism Department, holding locator, laptop and jammers raided his house in Jhangi Syedan.
Aamer Mughal said he along with several PTI leaders and over 500 unidentified workers were booked in two cases by the capital police.
The police contingent broke into his house, overpowered and manhandled his servants and snatched their mobile phones, he alleged, adding that the servants denied his presence in the house, though the locator showed he was present there.
In the meantime, Mr Mughal switched off his mobile and escaped, he said, adding that his son Saad Abdullah inquired about the arrest warrant from the police, but he was asked to remain quiet.
The police left after searching the house, he added.
Police summon journalists
The capital police have summoned four journalists who were allegedly beaten by police officials on the premises of the Islamabad High Court in the presence of deputy inspector general of police operations and assistant commissioner, sources toldDawn.
According to the notice issued by the office of DIG Headquarters, Awais Ahmed, an inquiry had been marked to DIG Ahmed regarding the incident that took place between police officials and mediapersons. He has to complete the inquiry and submit a report based on facts to the inspector general of police Islamabad on Friday (today) positively, it added.
One of the journalists, Saqib Bashir from Express TV appeared before the DIG.
Talking toDawn,Saqib Bashir said he told the DIG that a complaint had already been filed with Ramna police station and that an FIR should be registered.
An assistant commissioner and other police officials were seen present in the footage when journalists were manhandled, he said, adding that later more footage appeared in which the DIG Operations was also found to present there. The officers and the officials present during the incident can be identified through these footages, he added.
The DIG Headquarters, who is the inquiry officer, also summoned Assistant Commissioner Abdullah, SDPO Ramna DSP Shams Azhar, DSP Mehfooz Kiyani as well as five police officials performing duty with him and DSP Farooq Ahmed Niazi and his five subordinates.
