QUETTA: President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has reaffirmed that the country’s permanent Constitution would be ready within the stipulated period and the document, which provided a firm base for establishment of true democracy, would be presented to the nation as promised on March 23 or at the latest, by April 21.
He regretted that people who were creating obstacles in constitution-making were not serving the national cause and said that the negative attitude of such elements would in no way help them achieve their nefarious designs. President Bhutto, who was speaking at a garden party in Sibi this afternoon [Feb 28] hosted by Governor Bugti, said that the country, which remained for the past 25 years without a constitution and had greatly suffered on that count, would succeed in getting it this time.
The people of Pakistan, he added, could no longer be exploited by those who had vested interests and cared little for contributing towards the country’s well-being… . President Bhutto referred to the Constitutional Accord reached at the meeting of leaders of all parties represented in the National Assembly and said that the Accord, which was widely acclaimed throughout the country, had set the basic principles for the Constitution.
