KARACHI: A young man was killed and five others were injured when a two-storey building collapsed in Patel Para on late Saturday night, police and rescue services said.

They said that the building collapsed near the football ground within the remit of the Jamshed Quarters police station. As a result, five persons suffered serious injuries and one of them died.

The police and rescue teams pulled out the body and wounded persons from the rubble and moved them to a hospital for treatment and legal formalities.

East SSP Zubair Nazeer Shaikh told Dawn that the construction of the two-storey building was very old.

Regarding probable cause of the incident, he said that the building collapsed as some construction work was going on the upper floor and apparently the old structure could not withstand the pressure.

He said that the condition of the wounded persons was said to be out of danger as they suffered minor wounds.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson identified the deceased as Amjad Rehman, 35. Three of the injured persons were identified as Salam Nawab, 35, Habib Suleman, 60, and Zakir Mehmood, 35.
