ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque on Thursday said Pakistan should launch the 5th generation mobile network or 5G at least in cosmopolitan areas to remain in the global tech race.

In telecommunications, 5G is the fifth-generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks.

Talking to the media at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day ITCN Asia Exhibition, the minister said the world was moving ahead to 5.5G and 6G. Therefore, it was necessary for Pakistan to remain in the race.

“We will talk to Huawei and Zong to accelerate the launch of 5G in Pakistan,” the minister said.

The minister decried restrictive policies of the State Bank of Pakistan and said IT and telecom was not merely an industry but a catalyst for growth and beneficial for the country’s economy.

He said while rice and textile exports registered a decline, IT exports grew by 3.5pc in the July-January period of the current fiscal year.
