KARACHI: The 28th edition of the annual international mushaira organised by the Sakinan-i-Shehr-i-Quaid, which is going to be held at the Expo Center on Feb 25 (Saturday), will have the city administration’s full support.

The assurance was given to the five-member organising committee of the event by Karachi Commissioner M Iqbal Memon during a meeting a day before.

Mr Memon said literary functions help the government’s efforts in promoting literary activities in the city. This is the reason that the administration will lend its full support to the mushaira. He was of the view that such programmes should keep taking place so that people, especially the younger generation, will get a chance to take part in healthy activities on a regular basis.

The commissioner was told by the organisers that this year’s edition will have more than 30 poets from Pakistan and across the world. The international participants will include verse-wielders from the UK, Germany, Canada, the UAE, and the US. Those who met with the commissioner included Mahmood Ahmed Khan, Prof Ejaz Ahmed, Farhan Ur Rehman, Khalid Shamsi and Syed Turab Shah.
