ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said the government was taking tangible steps to stabilise economy and prioritising cut in unnecessary imports and enhancing exports.

He said the incumbent government was committed to improving the economy with strenuous efforts.

The prime minister was talking to a delegation of Rothschild and Co, one of the world’s largest independent financial advisory groups, that called on him on Monday, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Finance Dr Aisha Ghaus Pasha and other relevant officials.

Talking to members of the delegation, the prime minister said that Pakistan faced natural calamity of recent floods triggered by climate changes.

The delegation members termed the economic situation of Pakistan stable and said that talented manpower of the country was its real strength. The present government was taking steps to take the economy on the right path, they observed.

They also commended Pakistan Stock Exchange as among the best-performing exchange in the region. Pakistan, the members said, had also created awareness in an effective manner about the impact of climate change at the global level.

Lake tragedy, bus accident

The prime minister expressed grief over the loss of life in boat capsizing in Kalankar lake, Umerkot. Six people of the same family drowned in the incident on Sunday.

He prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace and for the grant of patience to members of the bereaved families.

The prime minister also expressed his heartfelt grief over the loss of 14 lives in a bus accident in Kallar Kahar and directed the authorities concerned to provide best possible medical treatment to those injured in the accident. He prayed for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace and for early recovery of the injured.
