HARIPUR: Members of the Pakistan Bar Council visited the University of Haripur to examine facilities required for the launch of the five years LLB programme, registrar Riaz Mohammad said.

He told reporters here that the university’s syndicate approved the start of LLB classes in its 28th meeting, which was held on Jan 14 this year.

The registrar said the university formally informed the Pakistan Bar Council to inspect arrangements for the programme.

He said the PBC was the accrediting authority for LLB classes in both private and government educational institutions, so it sent a team comprising former deputy speaker of the provincial assembly Khushdil Khan and advocate Syed Amjad Ali Shah to the UoH.

Former chairman of the KP Services Tribunal Ahmad Sultan Tareen, who is also the member of UoH’s Board of Studies, and legal adviser Zahid Mufti were also present.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Shafiqur Rehman briefed visitors about the facilities, faculty and LLB course to be offered by the university along with the demand for qualified law graduates in the country and abroad.

The registrar said the PBC team expressed satisfaction with those facilities and arrangements for the new course and suggested some improvements for accreditation.

He said the UoH was the province’s second public sector university after Hazara University to launch the five years LLB programme.
