Two trucks laden with 1,600 flour bags seized

MIANWALI: The district food department on Saturday seized two trucks loaded with 1,600 bags (800 each) of flour on way to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the CPEC route near Daudkhel and got a case registered.

Mianwali District Food Controller Muhammad Sharif told Dawn that within a week the department had foiled many smuggling attempts and seized 530 wheat bags of 50 kilo each and 2,350 bags at different check posts and got cases registered besides arrest of smugglers.

Giving details, he said a team seized 480 bags of wheat near Harnoli on Mianwali-Multan Road and got a case registered. He said the officials also impounded a mini-truck carrying wheat bags of 50 kg each at Kundal and a case registered with Isakhel police station. On the CPEC route near Paikhel, 750 bags of flour were seized and Paikhel police instituted a case.

The controller said: “There is no shortage of flour at sale points in the district and all flour mills are being monitored as per their SOPs besides daily checking of sale outlets.”
