ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court office on Tuesday returned a plea seeking to challenge the appointment of caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi on the ground that it has not raised any question of public importance.

Moved through PTI general secretary Asad Umar on Jan 27, the petition also urged the apex court to set aside the appointment of leader of the opposition in the NA Raja Riaz Ahmed and two ECP members Babar Hassan Bharwana and Ikramullah Khan.

The SC registrar office returned the petition, saying that no proof had been provided. Also, the petitioner impleaded the Punjab chief minister as a respondent when he could not be made a party under Article 248 of the Constitution.

“The petitioner has also failed to point out what question of public importance with reference to the enforcement of any of the fundamental rights have been involved besides ingredients for invoking extraordinary jurisdiction of the apex court under Article 184(3) of the Constitution have not been satisfied,” the office explained.

The petitioner did not approach any other appropriate forum available under the law for the same relief and provided no justification for not doing so, the SC office stated, adding that the petition also failed to mention purpose for filing the constitutional petition.
