ISLAMABAD, Jan 6: Chinese government has donated more relief goods worth 20 million yuan (about $2.5 million) for the October 8 earthquake survivors. Chinese ambassador Zhang Chunxiang handed over the documents of the relief goods to the Cabinet Secretary Ejaz Rahim at the Cabinet Division here on Friday.

The relief goods, including 3,300 cotton tents and 33,000 blankets, were airlifted in four batches to Islamabad from December 29, 2005 to Jan 1, the ambassador said.

Ejaz Rahim thanked the ambassador for China’s donation. He recounted the continuous contribution made by the Chinese government in providing relief to the quake-affected people.

“The promptness and relevance of goods has created enormous goodwill in the people. It is another example of Pakistan-China tested friendship,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan ambassador to China Salman Bashir, called on Cai Wu, Minister of State Council Information, in Beijing on Friday. They discussed the media and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

They expressed satisfaction on the comprehensive strategic partnership and agreed that the media of the two countries would contribute to the commemoration of the 55th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.

Both sides emphasized the need for enhancing media and cultural exchanges to further cement the existing friendly relations.—Agencies
