KARACHI: Even almost one year after the induction of the present Government, which is committed to the establishment of an egalitarian and just social order, the state of the economy remains gloomy. Pakistan’s economy had received very hard knocks due to a protracted civil war and war with India which resulted in the loss of the East Pakistan market. Moreover, the introduction of various reforms in an already depressed economy had a “shock effect”.

Not all economic ills however, can be laid at the door of the Government, for outside pulls and pressures on the economy have been stupendous. — Correspondent
