KARACHI: Thoroughbred bay horse Churchill, who ended the last year on a winning note, eyes another triumph by capturing the Generation Cup in the winter Gymkhana race meeting which takes place here at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

With X-MAS Cup under his belt, Churchill appears to be the best bet among the six contenders in the cup race being contested over five-and-a-half furlongs. It is a term race for four-year-old and above thoroughbred and half-bred Pakistani horses.

He is expected to be followed by chestnut horse Thunder Star. The other quartet in the run include Zaheer Choice, Robert, Come On Champion and Princess Maria.

Chestnut mare Soldier Girl is likely to make amends by winning the opening race to be held over four furlongs under scale order VIII.

Soldier Girl, who had to be content with second place in her last run, may be chased by another mare Basanti among seven horses. However, if on job, mare

Sana Again has the potential to bring an element of surprise.

Half-a-dozen horses will face the starter in the second race under scale order VII and VIII with bay horse Baraco getting a chance to atone for successive losses.

Chestnut horse Arsalan Choice looks good for a place in the four-furlong race. If tried, grey horse Zabal One can pull off an upset.

Mare Angel Love look fancied to make it two on trot should she maintain her form in the third race being run over four-and-a-half furlongs.

Angel Love may be challenged by dark bay horse War Drums among seven acceptors.

Another mare New Market looks poised to overcome complacency by dominating the fourth race under scale order V and VI being run over four-and-a-half furlongs.

New Market will have to overcome bay horse Hi Alert to fulfill her dream among a quartet.

Filly English Doll is billed to avenge her last defeat by getting the better of bay horse Azeem Choice in the fifth and supporting race under scale order II, III and IV being contested over five furlongs.

Chestnut horse Golden Arrow looks a good choice for securing third place in a field of 10 horses. However, if backed by connection, bay horse Fantastico can upset the applecart.

The first race starts at 1:30pm.
