KARACHI: Within the first week of the year, the butchery of innocent youths by bandits in Karachi, which tarnished the last year’s peace in the metropolis, was resumed as a young man of Korangi became the first person of the year, who was shot dead by armed robbers while trying to put up resistance on Wednesday, officials said.

In addition to the killing, armed robbers shot at and wounded a passer-by and a minor daughter of a policeman in the same Korangi district in different incidents on Wednesday.

Awami Colony SHO Syed Farasat Husain said that robbers were looting some people near Denim Company in Bilal Colony.

Shahid Shakeel, 26, was standing outside his home and tried along with neighbours to prevent the robbers from committing the robbery. The suspects became jittery and resorted to firing in their attempt to flee, resulting in bullet injuries to the man. Shahid suffered critical injuries and was transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Criminals also shoot and hurt passer-by and school-going daughter of an ASI over resistance

Later on, the police’s encounter took place with fleeing robbers-cum-killers near Allah Wala Town where after an exchange of firing, two suspects including one in injured condition were arrested.

Korangi Industrial Area police SHO Aurangzeb Khattak claimed that both the injured suspects – Muratib Ali, 28, and his accomplice Asif Rasheed, 30 – were involved in murder of the youth. The police recovered two 30-bore pistols, two mobile phones and two SIMS from their possession.

The injured suspect was shifted to the JPMC.

Separately, Korangi SSP Sajid Amir Sadozai told media that both the held suspects have ‘confessed’ killing the man on late Tuesday night and other robberies.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a man was shot at and wounded by robbers in Korangi.

Area SHO Aurangzeb Khattak said that Daniyal, 57, was shot at and wounded by the firing of robbers when he put up resistance at KDA Society, Korangi Crossing.

The injured man was shifted to the JPMC for treatment.

A school-going daughter of an assistant sub-inspector of police was shot at and wounded by armed robbers over resistance in Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday.

Police said that ASI Mohammed Rizwan was taking his daughter to drop her at school when the robbers snatched the bike from him. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him, resulting in bullet injuries to the officer’s young daughter.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Mr Khattak said the injured girl was admitted at the JPMC where her condition was stated to be out of danger.
