LAHORE: Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU) claimed on Sunday to have arrested 44 suspects involved in theft and robbery cases during the last one week after responding to 1,680 calls received on the helpline.
Superintendent of Police Toqeer Naeem said that as many as 275,000 people were checked and body-searched in different operations carried out in the city during this week.
He said six motorcycles, five mobile-phones and thousands of rupees in cash were recovered from the suspects during these operations.
He said the special squads of the police also recovered 15 pistols, two rifles, magazines, and several bullets during a crackdown on illegal weapons.
The police also claimed to have recovered alcohol, hashish and heroin during the anti-narcotics operation.
The squads, during patrolling, arrested 35 proclaimed offenders, 29 habitual criminals, and 72 court absconders, the SP said.
Legal action was taken against 234 persons over non-verification of information, he said, adding that 32 people were arrested, of them 22 for doing a wheelie and 10 for resorting to jubilant firing.
