RAHIM YAR KHAN: Police on Saturday registered a case against an executive engineer (EXEN) of public health engineering department on charges of attacking and slapping a journalist.

According to a first information report filed by City A division, Naeem Bashir, district reporter of Daily Dunya, on Friday visited the office of EXEN Amjad Saleem and demanded some documents. Saleem refused to provide him documents, turned aggressive and attacked him.

The EXEN called his two peons Shareef and Imam Bakhsh and allegedly started slapping the journalist. The EXEN held Mr Bashir hostage at his office after locking him. Bashir called his friends Faizan Nazir and Rana Usman through his cell phone who came there and rescued him.

Police have registered the case against the EXEN under sections 342 and 506 of Pakistan Penal Code.
