PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council on Saturday announced that lawyers from the province won’t attend court proceedings on December 15 as they would participate in a sit-in to be staged by the legal fraternity in Islamabad to press for passage of the Lawyers Protection Act.

The decision was made at meeting of the bar chaired by its vice-chairman Mohammad Ali Khan Jadoon, according to statement.

The meeting decided that the KP lawyers would join the Thursday’s protest, and directed the lawyers’ bodies to reach the federal capital for the purpose.

The participants also condemned a robbery incident at the house of a lawyer in Swabi and murder of a lawyer in Nowshera.

The meeting also condemned ‘maltreatment’ of a lawyer in Tangi area of Charsadda by the local police.

The meeting demanded of the KP police chief to ensure arrest of the killers of Nowshera lawyer.

They threatened to stage a sit-in outside the office of Nowshera police chief if the culprits were not arrested forthwith.
