ISLAMABAD: People must think about their coming generations before casting votes in the upcoming local government (LG) elections on Dec 31, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Nawaz Awan said on Sunday.

He was addressing participants of a public meeting in Saidpur.

Mr Awan said all preparations by his party had been finalised and people must take into consideration whether they want to cast their votes in favour of slavery or true independence.

“We are not here for small development works, our aim is to build the nation. I believe that the PTI will clean sweep the LG elections on Dec 31,” he said.

“PTI wants to change all norms of politics,” he said, adding that development work worth billions of rupees was carried out in the capital but the party will not use this for getting votes.

Speaking on the occasion, PTI’s candidate from Union Council (UC) No. 1 Raja Sheraz Kiani said not a single relative of Imran Khan and his team members was contesting elections from Islamabad.

“Whereas other political parties have distributed tickets among their children and nephews,” he claimed.

The Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI) failed to deliver a good outcome during the last LG polls due to lack of funds, Mr Kiani said, adding that the corporation did not even have financial rules for proper disposal of works.

The first-ever local government completed its tenure in February 2021 without paying due honorarium to the UC chairpersons.
