CHAGAI: Businesses activities remained suspended on Friday in Chagai town where shops remained shuttered during a protest against a recent rise in robbery cases.

Tyres were burnt on a road in the main bazaar during the protest, leaving traffic partially suspended.

Protesters also staged a demonstration outside Levies Station and chanted slogans against ‘growing unrest’.

Addressing the demonstration, Mir Allah Bakhsh Mohammad Hasni said robberies, theft and other kind of street crimes have become a matter of routine, creating fear and panic among locals.

Also, several residents sustained injuries during such robberies, he said, adding that a large number of people were deprived of their valuables in recent months yet local administration seemed unable to arrest the culprits. The protesters demanded that the district administration take necessary measures to maintain law and order in Chagai town.
