BERLIN, Dec 31: Only 20 percent of Germans believe their country will hoist 2006 World Football Cup trophy in Berlin on July 9, according to a survey released by Der Spiegel news magazine on Saturday.

Among those questioned, women are slightly more optimistic on Germany’s World Cup title chances than men.

Some 20 percent of women think that German team can win the World Cup for the fourth time after 1954, 74 and 90, compared to only 18 percent of men.

Earlier polls indicated that most German footbal fans were much more upbeat on their national squad’s World Cup chances.—PPI
