PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali on Monday took notice of people’s complaints about gas outages and low pressure in the provincial capital and suburbs, and directed the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to domestic consumers.

He called the SNGPL officials to the Governor’s House here and learned about the causes of gas outages and low pressure.

The governor phoned SNGPL managing director Ali Javed Hamdani and informed him about the gravity of the issue in Peshawar city and its suburbs.

He warned that he won’t tolerate lethargy in the provision of uninterrupted gas supply to domestic consumers.

Mr Ali said the issue was mainly caused by gas leak from rusted pipelines.

He directed the gas utility’s head to ensure the early replacement of rusted and damaged pipelines in the provincial capital to resolve the issue on a permanent basis.

SNGPL general manager Taj Ali Khan, who was present in the meeting, assured the governor that new gas pipelines would be laid in Peshawar district by next Feb.

“The ongoing gas pipeline project was begun at the cost of Rs3 billion to address low pressure in Peshawar city and its suburbs,” he said.

Mr Khan said the replacement of outdated pipelines would permanently resolve the issues of gas outages and low pressure in Tehkal Payan, Tehkal Bala, Gulbarg, Nothia, Warsak Road, Pajagi Road, Lindi Arbab, Gharibabad, Shami Road, Gulbahar, Regi and adjoining areas.

He also said natural gas would be provided to domestic consumers in Peshawar city on a priority basis during the hours it was required the most.
