LAHORE, Dec 31: A civil judge on Saturday stayed the election for the office of the president of Model Town Cooperative Society scheduled to be held on Sunday (today).
Petitioner Khalid Ikram submitted that he was contesting the election for the office of the president. The elections for all the offices of the society were scheduled to be held on Dec 25. Elections were held for the offices of the vice-president and managing committee members but for the office of the president was postponed on the ground that some ballot papers had been stolen from a women’s polling booth.
He submitted that postponement of election was malafide and against Rule 8 under which the elections for all the offices were required to be held simultaneously.
Holding of election only for the post of president was also against the orders for restoration of society issued by the Lahore High Court and Punjab cooperatives secretary on his petitions.
