LAKKI MARWAT: Terrorists attacked a police post in Manzar Faqeer area of Tajori town in Lakki Marwat district late on Wednesday night, said a police official.

He said that a group of terrorists attacked the post with automatic weapons and rocket launchers from two sides. “The attackers fired rockets at the police post building and caused damage to it,” he said.

He said that at midnight a policeman who was on duty in the rooftop sentry post noticed suspects around the police post building and challenged them.

“Upon this, the miscreants opened fire at the post,” said the official, adding that other policemen also took positions and the exchange of fire continued for some time.

He said that the police stations and police posts were linked with the command and control room established at the police lines through closed-circuit television cameras for surveillance purposes.

“It helped the police authorities to learn about the attack and respond quickly to thwart the assailants’ plan,” he said.

The official said that reinforcement from the police lines and nearby police stations headed by DPO Ziauddin Ahmed reached the area and forced the attackers to retreat and flee the place.

The official said that the cops had launched a search operation for the attackers in the area, but there were no immediate arrests.
