MUCH has been written and discussed about the horrible traffic jams in Karachi, but not specifically in terms of the logjams around cardiac emergency facilities and on roads leading to them. Health emergencies, especially when they relate to the heart, need immediate attention. Any delay becomes a matter of life and death.

There is a cardiology centre in the busy area of Karachi’s Hussainabad area. It is supposed to be a major and efficient facility, but what good can even the most efficient health centre do when the patient fails to get there in time?

The situation is terrible, especially in the evening hours till late in the night because of the presence of one of the innumerable food streets the city has. The city adminis-trators should ensure better traffic management in the area to facilitate heart patients, in particular, and citizens, in general.
