BAHAWALPUR: Police have registered a case against two unidentified car occupants, who allegedly attempted to run over an on-duty traffic warden, leaving him injured with his leg fractured at Milad Chowk here on Saturday.

According to warden Mahar Asghar, he was on duty at Milad Chowk in the city, when he tried to stop a black car, occupied by two unidentified men, for violating the one-way traffic rule.

He said the driver, instead of stopping the car, sped it up in an attempt to run him over.

Acting swiftly, the warden managed to get on the car’s bonnet, but the driver accelerated the speed and drove it to the next crossing, where he also attempted to hit another on-duty warden, Sultan Sikandar, but failed.

The driver kept driving rashly with Asghar clinging to the car’s bonnet, and suddenly applied brakes near Sadiq Public School on Ahmedpur East Road. Due to the sudden halting of the car, the warden fell on the road, suffering injuries.

The unidentified driver managed to escape with the car.

The warden was shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for treatment, where doctors declared after his examination that his leg had been fractured.

Later, on Asghar’s complaint the Cantonment police registered an FIR (No 618/22) under sections 324, 186 and 279 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the unidentified car occupants and started looking for them.

INJURED: Six labourers suffered serious injuries when a tractor-trolley laden with maize skidded off the road and plunged into a deep ditch on Lal Sohanra-Kudwala road, about 35kms from here, on Saturday.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the labourers were on the trolley when the accident occurred. They were shifted to the emergency ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for treatment.
