MANSEHRA: Torghar District Development Advisory Committee chairman MPA Laiq Mohammad Khan said on Sunday that groundbreaking for a new government degree college would be conducted soon.

“The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved funds for the first degree college in the district and work on this project would soon be started,” he said while speaking to a jirga attended among others by elders of five main tribes.

“The work on the mega Brando Bridge for which the funds of Rs8 billion were approved in August this year would also be inaugurated soon,” Mr Khan said.

He added that the bridge would not only reduce the travel time between Torghar and Peshawar and the rest of Hazara division but also bring prosperity and development to the district,” he said.

He said solar system was being installed in every mosque across the district. “The work on Darband-Thakot Road, which is well underway at a cost of Rs660 million, is going to be completed shortly, which will link Torghar with Hazara expressway and Karakoram Highway,” Mr Khan said.

The chairman of DDAC said that the so-called political elite had kept the erstwhile tribal belt of the Mansehra district deprived of development for the last three decades and was now creating hurdles in the way of mega projects.
