KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved a whopping Rs46.3 billion for reconstruction of 71 roads damaged due to heavy rains and floods in the province.

“The overhauling of the damaged roads, particularly the small ones connecting villages to main roads, is important for the easy access of the people for the revival of the economy,” he said while presiding over a meeting here at the CM House on Friday.

The chief minister was informed that 71 roads in 23 districts with an overall length of 1,473.38 kilometres had been damaged.

Works Minister Zia Abbas Shah informed the chief minister that the estimated cost of the roads has been worked out at Rs46.3bn.

The chief minister approved the scheme and directed the Planning and Development chairman Hassan Naqvi to finalise formalities and get the work started at the earliest.

It was also pointed out that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) had also agreed to finance the repair of some major roads of the province for which necessary documentation was being completed.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sohail Rajput, Principal Secretary to CM Fayaz Jatoi, Works secretary Imran Atta and chief engineer-roads.
