MIRPURKHAS: The District Bar Association has announced a boycott of court proceedings across Mirpurkhas division on Wednesday (Nov 2) in protest against alleged harassment of a lawyer by police at the gate of the Mirpurkhas district and sessions court on Tuesday. It said the protest call was supported by the Sindh Bar Council.

The Mirpurkhas DBA organised a protest demonstration soon after the car carrying senior high court lawyer Afzal Kareem Virk and some other persons was stopped by a police team led by SHO of the Town police station for a search. Apparently, the police team believed that among the other persons travelling in the car was a suspect wanted by them. The car occupants were leaving the court to proceed to Hyderabad, according reports.

Protesting lawyers led by Mirpurkhas DBA president Shoukat Rahimoon strongly condemned the police action, arguing that no suspect was found in the search. The protesters claimed that police actually harassed the lawyer and his guests at the behest of some influential figures of the area.

They urged the IGP, Mirpurkhas DIG and SSP to hold an inquiry into the episode and take action against the police team.
