ISLAMABAD: Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi has formed an inspection team of senior officials that would check facilities being provided by the National Savings Centres (NSCs) to senior citizens and pensioners who invest their hard-earned money after retirement in these centres.
The ombudsman has been receiving complaints from the citizens and pensioners against the NSCs for their failure to provide proper facilities to the investors. In some cases, the complainants have referred to mistreatment of clients.
Taking such frequent complaints seriously, Mr Qureshi constituted the inspection team comprising senior adviser Ahmad Farooq, consultant (implementation) Pervez Haleem and director media M. Javed Chaudhry to spot check and verify the complaints of the clients at these centres.
The inspection team has prepared a plan to pay surprise visits to the saving centres where they would check the overall conditions and facilities being provided to the clients, especially senior citizens, and also discuss the related issues with the concerned officials.
After completing its task, the inspection team will prepare and submit its report to the federal ombudsman for taking necessary action.
The Central Directorate of National Savings has billions of rupees worth of deposits belonging to the poor pensioners and senior citizens.
