SUKKUR: A shootout between villagers and a gang of thieves left two persons dead in a village located in Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Thursday night.

Officials at the C-Section police station said that an armed gang of thieves sneaked into a house in Noor Khan Sabzoi village and was busy collecting the booty but occupants of the house woke up and challenged them.

Head of the family, Abdul Rasheed Sabzoi, fired some shots which prompted the fleeing thieves to return the fire, the police said.

They added that Rasheed Sabzoi and one of the thieves, Abdul Wahid Sabzoi, sustained fatal bullet wounds in the shootout.

The other thieves managed fled the village, they said.

The area SHO said the bodies were handed over to the heirs after a post-mortem examination.

No case was registered but a hunt for the escaped thiefed was started.
