KOHAT: An official of Expanded Programme on Immunisation claimed that 100 per cent target had been achieved during the 12-day vaccination campaign against typhoid in Kohat district.

EPI head Dr Mohabat told mediapersons on Monday that a target of vaccinating 137,000 children had been set in the six union councils of the city, Lachi tehsil and Shakardarra.

He attributed the achievement of target to vaccination of students of schools and colleges during the school timings.

He advised the parents to vaccinate their children against typhoid as the vaccine had no side effects. He said some cases of reaction were reported, but children were admitted to hospital for observation and then discharged.

He said a drive would be launched in November to cover the rest of the district, adding all the newborn babies, who were brought for measles vaccination, would be given typhoid doze.

FIRE SAFETY: Secretary Road Transport Authority (RTA) Mohammad Shoeb has directed the bus stand owners and transporters to keep fire extinguishers and axes in vehicles so passengers can save their lives in an emergency.

Chairing a meeting with bus stand owners and transporters on Monday, he said RTA would launch a campaign after a week and suspend route permits in case of non-implementation of the orders.

Mr Shoeb also directed transporters to remove grills from widows as a precautionary measure.

LAND TRANSFER: Residents and property dealers of Togh Bala area are facing hardships in getting land deeds done as Latha (land map) has been ‘missing’ from the revenue office.

They appealed to the deputy commissioner, who is also the district revenue head, to order an inquiry into the ‘missing’ land map.

Togh welfare association chairman Mr Inaam and others, in a statement on Monday, said the newly-appointed patwari Shehzad Khan Khan had asked the people to bring a coloured map from the Kohat revenue office to get land deals done.

They said going to Kohat’s revenue office for finalisation of land deals cost them time and money.
