DERA GHAZI KHAN, Dec 24: A powerful bomb explosion on Friday night partially damaged a pillar of the tower supporting the main transmission line at Teerki Kandh near Fort Munro in tribal area tehsil. The bomb planted with another tower of the line did not explode.

Three unexploded devices planted with the partially damaged tower (121 main 33,000/132,000 KV transmission line) were later defused by the bomb disposal squad technician while the devices planted with four legs of the tower No 148 (Balochistan) were defused.

The power supply remained uninterrupted.

According to reports, Kher and Fort Munro — the bordering towns along the troubled Kohlu district in Balochistan — jolted around 10.45pm on Friday night. The administration came to know about the occurrence early on Saturday.

Political assistant to tribal area and Border Military Police commandant Tariq Bokhari, Risaldar (BMP) Waqar Aziz Qaisrani, along with the bomb disposal squad, reached the spot after receiving information. It was the second blast in the tribal area and eighth in the whole district.

The first sabotage activity damaged a tower of the main power supply line on June 16 last. Two suspects, who were locals, were booked and thrown behind bars. Later, they were released on bail.

Bomb disposal squad technician Abdul Karim told Dawn that each of the locally-manufactured bomb weighed five kilogramme. He said the bomb that did some damage was made in Wah and used for destruction of buildings.

Mr Bokhari said the saboteurs would be tracked down soon, as the law enforcers were using modern methods of detecting the culprits.
