KARACHI: Water suspension tomorrow

KARACHI, Dec 24: Karachi would get 30mgd less water on Monday due to suspension of electricity supply to Dhabeji pumping station. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board spokesman said that improvement work would be carried out at the KESC Grid Station at Dhabeji to provide electricity connection to the pumping house of K-III, the project for providing additional 100mgd water to Karachi, on Monday.

Due to this work, the power supply to Dhabeji pumping station Phase-II would remain suspended from 10am to 5pm. The seven-hour power suspension would result in 30mgd less water supply to Karachi on Monday.

The KWSB further said that normal water supply to the city would be restored from Tuesday morning. It appealed to the water consumers to use water conservatively and store it according to their needs.

It said that after the completion of the K-III project the water supply situation in the city would be improved and the areas that were dry presently would also get proper water supply.

FILTER PLANT: Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Nazim Muhammad Wasay Jalil inaugurated a water filter plant at Pehlwan Goth on Saturday.

The water filter plant was installed by the Gulshan Town Municipal Administration in collaboration with an NGO, Community Advisory and Welfare Service.

It would provide filtered water to citizens at the rate of Rs4 per 10 gallons of water. Out of these, Rs4.50 would go to the concerned union council.

The nazim on the occasion stressed adopting hygienic measures. He said that the provision of clean drinking water was must for a healthy living. He said that if the experiment of Pehlwan Goth filter plant proved successful, more such plants would be set up in other union councils of the town.—PPI
