SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Five people, including two policemen, were killed and three others wounded in firing incidents in different areas of South Waziristan tribal district on Monday.

The police said the first incident took place in Karikot area near Wana when rival groups exchanged fire. Officials said groups led by Bilal and Badshah Khan had developed differences during the local government elections, which resulted in bloody dispute on Monday.

They said supporters of Badshah Khan and Bilal opened fire at each other’s houses. The police rushed to the area to stop firing.

The firing left four people, including two policemen, dead on the spot. The policemen were caught up in the cross-fire. Three other people also got injuries.

In another incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a rickshaw in front of a Nadra office, killing one person. The deceased was identified as Shafiq.
