GUJRANWALA, Dec 23: A local Shia leader was shot dead by four gunmen at an Imambargah on College Road here on Friday. Police described the killing as an outcome of rivalry between two Shia groups. Police said that Syed Asad Ali Raza Abidi was present at the main gate of Imambargah Gulistan-i-Marfat when four people came there. After a verbal clash over the issue of relocating the Imambargah gate, they opened fire and escaped, leaving Abidi dead on the spot.

On receiving information, DPO Arif Mushtaq reached there along with a heavy contingent of police.

The Model Town police was yet to register the case on Friday evening.

ACQUITTAL: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 acquitted on Friday two men charged with killing an ASI in an encounter.

Reports said the Kakrali police arrested Ghulam Sarwar and Tahir Shah and sent their chargesheet to court. As the prosecution failed to establish the charges that they killed ASI Zafar Iqbal in an encounter on July 14, 2003, they were exonerated.
