MANSEHRA: A teenage girl, who was hospitalised after testing positive for dengue, died as cases of mosquito-borne disease surged in Mansehra district on Friday.

“Haleema Bibi, 17, belonging to Hado Bandi area of Safada village council, was admitted to the Ayub Medical Complex Hospital in Abbottabad two days ago, but she died on Friday,” Basharat Ali Swati, chairman of the village council, told reporters.

Mr Swati said that 40 positive cases had been reported from his village council, adding that though the health department had distributed 30 mosquito nets and carried out fumigation in the area, more mosquito nets and door-to-door screening of residents was vital to arrest the rising number cases.

He said that dengue cases were also reported from Dodial and Mansehra towns as people complained the health department was yet to take measures to control the disease.

He said that dengue patients were also being shifted to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.
