RAHIM YAR KHAN: A constable was killed while four other policemen were critically injured by dacoits of Katcha area in an ambush near Bhong area, about 65 kilometres away from here, on Wednesday night.

Reports said policemen of Khair Muhammad Jhuk check post were patrolling near Gagri Bagh area when some dacoits attacked them as a result of which constable Muhammad Akbar died on the spot while sub-inspector Ijaz Ulnabi, constables Azhar Hussain, Najeeb and driver Naveed were critically injured.

Initially, the injured were shifted to the Indus Hospital, Bhong, but later they were shifted to the Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital.

Police cordoned off the area and started a search operation for the dacoits.

On Thursday, the funeral prayers for Muhammad Akbar were offered at Police Lines and he will be laid to rest at his native Basti Ghulam Rasool village near Chowk Bahadurpur.

MOTORCYCLE AMBULANCES: A motorcycle rescue service was inaugurated in the city by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Musa Raza and Regional Emergency Officer Dr Abdul Sattar.

DC Raza said the service was a mega welfare project by Chief Minister Parvez Elahi, who also started the Rescue 1122 service for the public.

He said the service would enhance the facilitation in narrow streets of congested areas in case of any emergency or accident. Many precious human lives would be saved after providing first aid.
