Mocha frappe is a very exotic sounding name for a drink, but it’s not as difficult to make at home as the name may be for some people to pronounce correctly.

This caffeinated, blended beverage made with ice, coffee, chocolate syrup and milk, and a topping of cream or ice cream, is super refreshing and cool.

This drink has been made popular by Starbucks, which has trademarked the name ‘Frappuccino’ for its range of blended iced coffee drinks. Mocha, which combines coffee and chocolate, is usually a hot beverage, but in the case of mocha frappe, the drink becomes an iced beverage blended or beaten to produce a foamy drink.

When I come across an unusual recipe or an unusual recipe name, I find it interesting to dig deeper into the origin and roots of it. Knowing where it originated from, what are its popular forms and the whole history behind it adds to the appeal of that dish or drink. While I will let you do the research to find out more about mocha frappe, let me move on to its recipe. And let me add that while most recipes call for the topping of cream at the end, I added vanilla ice cream because I personally find drinks too heavy when they have cream. You can try both versions to see what works for you.

Ingredients

• Ice cubes, as desired or 1 cup
• 3/4 cup milk
• 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
• 1.5 teaspoon instant coffee powder
• 2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
• A dash of vanilla extract
• 2 scoops ice cream for topping

Add all the ingredients, except ice cream, in a blender and beat well until foamy.

Drip chocolate syrup on the sides of the serving glass from the inside. Add a few ice cubes. Add the blended drink mixture, top with two scoops of ice cream and drizzle more chocolate syrup at the end and enjoy!

The chocolaty-coffee flavour of mocha frappe is sure to please everyone. To bring a variation in the flavour, you can use caramel, hazelnut, or any other syrups or coffee flavours in place of the chocolate syrup.

Isn’t it super easy to make? So the next time you have an urge for a nice cool coffee or chocolate drink, no need to head for an expensive restaurant because you can easily make it with this recipe. This recipe is for a single serving.
