KARACHI: Inquiries … revealed that the overall situation in the Indian Dominion arising out of widespread lawlessness, particularly the recent events in Delhi, continues to cause grave anxiety… .

The Pakistan Government claim that although feelings are running high among their nationals in their own territory, they have been able to maintain far better control over forces of disorder than in the other Dominion. A spokesman close to Government sources in Karachi said today [Sept 22] that while the anxiety of the Indian Dominion Prime Minister to suppress lawlessness was recognised, his efforts did not appear to have as yet produced the expected result. — Correspondent

[It was also reported that] “The question of recovering abducted women was raised in the course of the discussions at Lahore between the Prime Ministers of Pakistan and India … ” says a communique issued by the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of Pakistan. “It is well-known that a large number of women have been abducted. Some have already been rescued but a very considerable number still remain [unaccounted for]. It was suggested that organised steps be taken with the co-operation of the East and West Punjab Governments and their police and military for the recovery of such women… .”
