SWABI: A pregnant woman was tortured to death allegedly by her husband and father-in-law in Parmuli village of Razaar tehsil here on Sunday, the police said.

Ajmeena Bibi, mother of the deceased, got registered an FIR with the Parmuli police station, stating that she was informed by Khan Malik, her daughter’s father-in-law, on phone that she had committed suicide.

The woman said she rushed to her house and found her lying dead inside a room. However, she said her daughter did not commit suicide and that she was tortured to death over a dispute.

The complainant said her daughter was seven-month pregnant. District police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan said he had ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The news of the woman’s alleged killing went viral on social media, with people calling for action against those involved in the ‘murder’.

The body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for postmortem. The police said the postmortem report was awaited.

The DPO said it was learnt that the deceased had a quarrel with her family members the previous night, and her murder could be the result of that. The police said husband of the deceased, Salman Khan, had married eight months ago, and it was his second marriage.

SHO Parmuli police station Niaz Ali said Salman Khan, his father, Khan Malik and uncle, Nowsher Khan, had been arrested.
