Because of a breach in a nearby embankment by an influential local politician, a small town north of Warah city in Larkana is at the risk of getting flooded all over again. It is said that the politician ordered the breach to save his fields and crops. The people of Khuhawar have already lost their homes and livestock in recent floods and are now facing additional trouble due to the breach in the embankment. Natural calamity is not alone in playing with the lives of the poor.

PREFERENCES MATTER: The Indian cricket team’s kit during the Asia Cup was worth noticing in the sense that it was sponsored by a multinational educational technology company. On the other hand, the logo on the Pakistan team’s kit was from one of the real estate groups. As per official details, the Indian sponsor is headquartered in Bangalore and claims to have over 115 million registered students. We should also consider our preferences.

TEST RESCHEDULING: The Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) announced certain jobs in February against which thousands from across the province applied. In view of the recent flooding, which has left massive part of the province submerged, most candidates have been displaced and are fighting for the survival of their families. In such a situation, the candidates may not do well during the examination as they are already under stress. The test should be rescheduled.

LIBRARY PROTEST: The Punjab Public Library in Lahore usually opens at 8am, but due to an ongoing protest by employees against administration, the library staff bars students from entering the library before 10am. More than 200 students have to wait outside the library for two hours every day. Such irrational behaviour needs to be condemned at all levels.
