KHYBER: At least three suspected terrorists were killed by the personnel of Counter Terrorism Department during an intelligence-based operation in the Sur Kamar area of Jamrud in Khyber tribal district late on Friday evening.

A brief statement issued by the CTD on Saturday said the operation was conducted upon information about the presence of an armed group that was busy planning terrorist attacks in the country.

Three armed men were killed after an exchange of intense gunfire, while another two or three managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

The CTD statement said that some arms and ammunitions were seized during the operation.

Two of the killed suspects were identified as Ikramullah alias Muhsin, and Mursala Khan alias Qari alias Irshad.

According to APP, the terrorists belonged to the banned militant Islamic State group, also known by its Arabic acronym as Daesh.

The CTD team recovered three Kalashnikovs, 12 magazines, three hand-grenades and other weapons from their possession.

Police started search operation in the area to arrest the fleeing terrorists.
