MUZAFFARGARH: In recognition of Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan’s services for democracy, the Punjab Government has renamed Nicholson Road, Lahore, after the late politician.

On Friday, Punjab government issued a notification renaming the Nicholson Road, where the late Nawabzada would live in Lahore and carried out political activities, as Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan Road to pay tribute to him some 19 years after his death.

Late Nawabzada, who belonged to Muzaffargarh, formed the Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP) in 1967 that later became a component of the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD) launched against military dictator Gen Ziaul Haq in 1983.

Nawabzada had also a key role in the formation of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) in 2000 that challenged the rule of Gen Pervaiz Musharraf. After his death in 2003, his son Nawabzada Mansoor Ali Khan merged the PDP with Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
