DADU: Dust storm followed by light rain enveloped several areas in and around Sehwan town, Kachho region, Khirthar range of mountains and Gorakh Hill Station on Monday.

The rain sent residents of Johi, Mehar and Bhan Syedabad rushing to ring embankments to reinforce the structures and patrol the dykes.

Dadu deputy commissioner Syed Murtaza Ali Shah said that the hills station’s land link had been disconnected since July 7 in the wake of heavy rain and flashflood. No loss of life was reported from any part of the district, he said.

Grid station saved

Pakistan Army troops along with civilian workforce saved Dadu’s grid station from being hit by floodwaters by creating a dyke around it, PPI adds.

After hard work for 36 hours, army engineers’ corps constructed a 2.4-kilometer embankment around the grid station to prevent floodwater from entering the premises and disrupt power supply to Dadu.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had on Sunday felt a threat to the 500kV grid station from the looming deluges and directed that all available resources should be employed to protect the installation. Three excavators were sent to the site from Moro city to undertake the dyke construction work.
