ISLAMABAD: A newly-wed couple was gunned down in the capital, police said on Wednesday.

The victims were identified as Iqra, 18, and Nisar, 22. Both victims suffered multiple bullet injuries.

The woman’s body was handed over to her uncle while that of the deceased man to his brother after autopsy, police said.

The couple was from Kohistan and had married some two months ago.

On Aug 28, they rented a room for Rs3,000 per month in Dhoke Kashmirian, the officials said, adding that their landlord informed the police about the killings.

The landlord heard gunshots at around 3:30am after which he went to the room and found the man and woman dead, a police official said, adding that the motive behind the killings was yet to be ascertained, but apparently it seemed to be a case of honour killing.
