APC urges govt to shelve dam plan

DADU, Dec 20: An All Parties Conference (APC) has demanded of the government to shelve the Kalabagh dam plan and warned the federal government that the controversial dam would harm integrity of the country.

The APC was organised by the Citizens Action Committee in Khairpur Nathan Shah on Tuesday. Speaking at the conference, the president of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka, Noor Mohammad Chandio, said that people of Sindh would not accept the Kalabagh dam and members of his party would continue their struggle against it.

The Awami Tehrik leader, Syed Lal Shah, said that the protest drive against the project would continue.

Addressing the conference, Hafiz Hajan Leghari, said that many parts of Sindh were facing drought-like situation since last many years as establishment of Punjab was not releasing due share of water to Sindh.

He said that the Kalabagh dam would badly hit the economy of the province and there would be a crisis of drinking water.
