Kashmir opportunity stressed

Published December 20, 2005

RAWALPINDI, Dec 19: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said that the October earthquake has provided an opportunity for building further links between the Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control, which should not be missed.

Talking to United Nations Foundation Chairman Ted Turner, who called on him with other board members of the foundation on Monday, the president said Pakistan had conveyed proposals to India in this regard, which, he hoped, would be reciprocated.

Mr Turner expressed appreciation of the president’s policy of initiating a peace process with India.

The president thanked Mr Turner and the UN Foundation for the assistance provided for quake relief and their efforts to generate more funds for the purpose.

He thanked the foundation for its assistance to the Polio Eradication Programme.

He also explained the work being done by the National Commission for Human Development, whose chairman was present in the meeting.—APP
