RAWALPINDI: General Sir Frank W. Messervy … Commander-in-Chief Pakistan Army, has issued the following Special Order of the Day to all ranks of the Pakistan Army: “Today [Aug 15] marks the foundation of the Dominion of Pakistan and of the Pakistan Army. The units of our Army have a great history and tradition behind them. …With such a background and such splendid material I have no fears as to the efficiency of the Pakistan Army. …” General Messervy has sent the following message to General Sir Rob Lockhart, Commander-in-Chief Army of India: “… The units and personnel which now form the Dominion Armies have fought and won many a victory together … on many battlefields in Europe, Africa and Asia. Their dead lie honourably together, fallen in a just cause.

“Our earnest hope and prayer is that, inspired by this great tradition, the Armies of India and Pakistan will continue in the same spirit of goodwill and friendly co-operation. Those of us who have been separated from their old Regiments and Corps would wish to send a special message of remembrance and friendship to their old comrades-in-arms.” — Dawn Karachi
