ISLAMABAD, Dec 16: Senior Vice-President of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Mir Baz Mohammad Khan Khetran has said recent rocket attack on Gen Pervez Musharraf during his visit to Kohlu is part of a conspiracy being hatched by the agencies to launch a military operation in Balochistan.

Talking to a group of reporters here on Friday, the senior PPP leader said there was no need for Gen Musharraf to visit Kohlu and those who advised him to visit the area could be a part of the conspiracy.

“I fear that large-scale killings can take place in Balochistan as a result of military operation,” the PPP leader observed.

He said no one should take any decision in haste as it could create hatred among the provinces and between the people and the armed forces or paramilitary forces.

Mr Khetran said though he and his party did not recognize Gen Musharraf as the country’s president, but the Kohlu incident was regrettable and against the Baloch traditions.

He said it seemed that Gen Musharraf was also trapped by those people who wanted to launch a operation in Balochistan to capture oil and gas resources. He asked Gen Musharraf to set up an inquiry commission to find out those responsible for taking him to Kohlu.

The PPP leader said tanks could not resolve the Balochistan problem and there was a need to initiate dialogue with the Baloch people.

He said Balochistan was situated near Afghanistan, Iran and even Middle Eastern countries and any unrest in this part could bring foreign influence.
