JAHANGIR ROAD

Published July 27, 2022

The dilapidated condition and delayed reconstruction of Jahangir Road have been causing serious issues to the commuters, especially the area residents. The road serves as the main artery connecting Liaquatabad and Teen Hatti to Guru Mandir. Adding to the woes of the commuters is the recent remark by the city administrator that the road may take another 10-12 months to be fully functional. May one ask, why?

INTER-CITY TRAVELS: During the recent Eidul Azha holidays, I travelled to Larkana from Karachi having to pay Rs2,500 against the normally fare of Rs1,400. When I and a few others tried to argue over such an exorbitant hike in fares, the transporter had nothing but lame excuses, like price hike, inflation and the increased number of people travelling to their native places for Eid. The fact is that the transporters should stop, or should be made to stop, exploiting people in this name or that.

BRIDGING THE MISTRUST: There has been a sudden surge in the number of new polio cases in the country despite funds being spent and efforts being made. Lack of trust seems to be a major issue in this regard. A polio team recently visited my school for the administration of polio drops to the young students. I asked the team to first produce any official document authorising them to carry out the immunisation drive, but the team had none. This may only increase the level of mistrust.

SANDOZ ROAD: The area close to the Sandoz Road in Jamshoro is in a mess, and those living there are leading miserable lives marked by heaps of garbage, overflowing drains and broken roads.

The swarms of flies during the day, and of mosquitoes in the night keep the people annoyed. Round the clock. The authorities concerned should do something about the situation urgently.
